From the heart of crime to the heart of a family — a former Isle of Wight police station could become a house.

The building in Ventnor, on Hambrough Road, has been empty for nearly a decade and its closure was part of a review of police-owned properties carried out around 2011. Cowes and Yarmouth stations also closed and Ryde followed later.

In the last few years, what was Ventnor police station was bought by local businessman, Kevin Sussmilch, who also owns adjacent buildings, including neighbouring hotel, The Hambrough.

Plans have now been lodged, through agent CAD Delta,  to turn the station and attached police house into homes.

The 1960s-built buildings could become semi-detached three-bedroom houses, with gardens and parking.

View the plans, 23/01455/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register.

Comments can be submitted until October 6.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary moved across town, to Dudley Road at Salisbury Gardens, which the force now shares with Ventnor Town Council.
