For Goodness Hake — Former Fish Unit To Become Tyre Centre In Northwood

A Northwood business unit could get a 'retread' from fish seller to tyre centre.

The former home of Phillips Fine Foods, next to Northwood Garage on Newport Road, could become an MOT testing centre and tyre replacement facility.

The site’s owner, Julian Griffin, is looking at a new way of utilising the space after using it for the last couple of years as a base for his business, which involves the restoration, repair and preparation of vehicles for competition and leisure use.

Planning agents Elmstone Design say Mr Griffin bought the site in 2019 after it had been vacant for a long time but it had been noted there was high demand for MOT testing and tyre replacement facilities in the Cowes area.

Permission is being sought for an extension to the current warehouse on the site to add more capacity.

It would match the visual appearance of the other buildings.

He also wants to turn part of the site into a storage facility, installing four containers and secure compounds which could be rented to small businesses and independent traders.

According to the plans, the centre would be open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm.
