Flooding Sees Elderly Ryde Couple's Home And Possessions Damaged

A fundraiser has been set up after an elderly couple from Ryde saw their home flooded during this week's relentless downpour.

Videos posted by granddaughter Caitlin Hill show the depth of flooding within the residence, as well as the subsequent damage caused.

The property is based on The Strand in Ryde — one of the areas of the Island most affected by the heavy rain.

Caitlin told Isle of Wight Radio:

"I checked on my step mum and dad (on Wednesday morning) and initially things were fine, but within the hour water started coming through the skirting board then the window seal and it wouldn't stop.

"My grandad had to be carried out because he struggles with mobility due to having Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.

"The water came all the way up to our chests in the end.

"They’ve lost all their furniture, but more importantly the irreplaceable things — they have insurance but it won’t replace those lost memories.

"I have set up a Go Fund Me page to help with essentials, replacement of clothes and — potentially — a hotel for them to have a break as they are currently staying with family in a small bungalow.

"We are all so heartbroken."

Those wishing to help can make donations to the Go Fund Me page which has been set up by Caitlin.
