Flood Alert Issued After 33mm Falls In Wroxall

A Flood Alert is in place for the Eastern Yar after heavy rainfall on the Isle of Wight.

Torrential rain hit the Island yesterday afternoon and evening (Wednesday).

The Environment Agency said that in one hour, 33mm of rain was recorded at Wroxall, which is a significant amount of rain in a short period of time.

The water level in the Eastern Yar is high and has been rising since yesterday following thunderstorms.

Flooding hit Arreton, Wootton, Ventnor Lake and Brading - with gardens and even some properties affected.

The Environment Agency said:

"We continue to monitor the forecast, and will try and keep the river clear of any reported blockages.

"In Alverstone, pumps used to protect gardens and property may be required to operate.

"This Flood Alert will be updated by 10am."
