Flood Alert In Force For Isle Of Wight Coast

A flood alert is in force for the Isle of Wight's coast.

Islanders are being told strong winds and large waves mean today's tide is expected to be higher than normal.

The Environment Agency has said Cowes, Freshwater and Sandown are among the places likely to be worst affected.

Properties aren't expected to be impacted.

A spokesperson said:

"For one hour either side of high water, large waves will cause spray overtopping and overwashing of defences across the exposed coast at Freshwater Bay, Sandown, Shanklin, Gurnard and Ryde.

"This will flood sea front esplanades, car parks and roads."

Bad weather is already causing disruption on two cross-Solent operators this morning (Wednesday).
