Ten Week Disruption On Main Sandown Road For Wall Repairs

Temporary traffic lights are being put in place on the main Sandown to Shanklin road from next week, as ten weeks of works get underway to fix a wall.

Islanders are being told to leave time for their journeys as disruption is expected from Monday (17).

The project, to be carried out by Island Roads on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, is scheduled on Skew Bridge.

It follows a previous incident when a vehicle collided with the wall causing damage to the structure.

During work it will be necessary to close a lane to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians.

This will mean that temporary traffic signals will be in operation at this location for the duration of the work.

Senior Project manager Jason Boulter said:

“The work is necessary to ensure the integrity of what is an important part of the strategic road network,

"While we have scheduled the work for outside of the holiday season, the temporary traffic lights will inevitably have an impact on some road journeys so we thank motorists in advance for their understanding.”
