East Cowes Surgery Celebrates Another Prestigious Queen’s Nurse Award

East Cowes Surgery is celebrating another of its nursing staff being awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN), by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI).

Chris Wheeler was presented with his award by Dame Professor Elizabeth Anionwu, Vice President and Fellow of the QNI at the annual awards ceremony at Friends House, London.

He joins fellow staff members Alison Ward and Sharon Hopkins, both Advanced Nurse Practitioners at the surgery, who already hold the prestigious title.

The title Queen’s Nurse is not an award for past service, but indicates a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.

Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities, and a shared professional identity.

Dr Crystal Oldman (CBE), Chief Executive of the QNI, said:

“On behalf of the QNI, I would like to congratulate Chris and welcome him as a Queen’s Nurse. Queen’s Nurses serve as leaders and role models in community nursing, delivering high quality health care across the country.

"The application and assessment process to become a Queen’s Nurse is rigorous and requires clear commitment to improving care for patients, their families and carers. We look forward to working with Chris and all other new Queen’s Nurses who have received the title this year.”

Chris Wheeler, 44, and one of the Practice Nurses at East Cowes Surgery, said:

“I’ve been a nurse for nearly six years, exclusively at East Cowes Surgery. I was nominated to be a Queen’s Nurse by a member of our team and have been encouraged to apply by Alison and Sharon.

"It’s an honour and a privilege to be recognised as achieving the high standards expected of a Queen’s Nurse, and as a practice we’re proud to be able to deliver the high standard of care that the East Cowes patients and community expect and deserve."

Dr Want - a GP partner at East Cowes Surgery - added:

“We are thrilled that Chris has joined Alison and Sharon in being awarded this prestigious title. It is a testament to their dedication and commitment to high standards of care and very well deserved.

"We are extremely proud of all of our nursing team and offer our sincere congratulations to Chris on his achievement.”
