Earth Day: Southern Vectis Urges Islanders To Leave Cars At Home

Southern Vectis is urging the Island to consider a minor change in their travel habits to make a major difference to the planet during this weekend's Earth Day.

Earth Day takes place on Saturday (April 22), with people across the world from all backgrounds coming together to advance sustainability and highlight the need to protect the climate and environment.

Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham, said:

“We want to encourage (Islanders) to help ease congestion and improve air quality by leaving their vehicles at home just twice a month for the rest of the year.

“Earth Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve — buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution.

"Just one double decker has the potential to remove up to 75 cars from our roads.

"Switching just one in every 25 of these journeys to a bus would reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by two million tonnes per year."

The official theme for Earth Day 2023 is "Invest In Our Planet."
