Ears Peeled For Ventnor Fringe Festival Village's Stacked Musical Offering

A litany of talented Isle of Wight musicians will come together during what promises to be a memorable final Saturday for this year's Ventnor Fringe Festival.

EarsPeeled has so far announced half a dozen of the Island's most prominent musical talents to feature on July 30 at The Big Top in the Fringe Village at the Flowersbrook site.

Plastic Mermaids and Coach Party are headlining the event, which also includes Isle of Wight Festival Main Stager Beth Brookfield, Cheap Teeth, Froglands PK and Wild Front.

Here's some low down on the acts:

Plastic Mermaids

Engrossing five-piece who built their own studio in Cowes to record all matter of eccentric, painstakingly crafted tracks.

Their live shows are fabled in circles across the UK, while a recent Glastonbury Festival debut exposed them to a new gaggle of admirers.

Coach Party

Effortlessly cool quartet whose witty lyrics have seen them evolve from promising local band to one of the most eagerly anticipated names on the line-up at major shows such as August's Victorious Festival in Southsea.

Coach Party, who signed with the Chess Club record label in 2019, were tipped as 'one to watch' by The Guardian during the first lockdown — a title which came to fruition when they recently performed in front of more than 97,000 revellers at a gig in France!

Beth Brookfield

A whirlwind 2022 for this teenage trailblazer has included an appearance at a local Ted X event, becoming the first ever female solo act to win the Wight Noize competition, an IW Festival Main Stage debut and a fantastic live performance on our breakfast show!

One of the hardest working and most promising singers to have come out of Newport's Platform One College, and has all the tools to be the next breakout star from these shores.

Froglands PK

Swimming in a swamp of 60s psychedelia, freak-folk and lo-fi indie rock, Froglands PK have quickly become one of the Isle of Wight’s most talked about bands since their formation in the summer of 2021, despite a low-key social media presence.

The frenetic four mash warbled synthesisers, sun-bleached guitars, heavy-grooving drums and Dylan-esque lyricism to create an uplifting sonic potion.

Wild Front

Described as 'The 1975 listening to their dad's funk records,' the uber cool Wild Front are signed to John Giddings' Solo Music agency.

Guitar-led tracks, each with a slew of fresh ideas, show the band's versatility and unbounded potential, with Giddings' input likely to prove valuable.

Cheap Teeth

Half-Halifax, half-parts unknown quartet who are something of a coup for the Fringe.

50 per cent of the band is named Joe and their backstory includes meeting for the first time in Lidl — although suggestions they came to blows over the last pack of gluten free fish cakes proved wide of the mark.

More acts will be announced over the coming weeks and tickets can be purchased directly from Ventnor Exchange on Church Street, by calling 716767 or ordering via the online Box Office.

EarsPeeled at Ventnor Fringe takes place on Saturday July 30 from 2pm until late. Tickets are priced at £25 each and under 18s must be accompanied.
