Lifeguards Called Into Action After Deceased Dolphin Washes Up On Sandown Beach

A dolphin washed up on Sandown Beach yesterday (Sunday), with lifeguards called to move the deceased marine mammal.

Beach manager, Todd  Miller, said:

"Sadly we had a dolphin wash up in front of the Beach Lifeguard Station in Sandown yesterday at approximately 1pm.

"The beach lifeguards cordoned off the area and called the coastguard to assist with recording the incident, as well as moving the dolphin to a safe place ready for collection from the appropriate authorities.

"We are unsure of the reason for death, but it is suspected to be the same dolphin that was spotted near Ventnor earlier in the week which is why it had coastguard tape on it when it washed up."
