Cyclists Unite For Epic Island Challenge To Find Brain Tumour Cure

A mass annual cycling challenge has raised thousands of pounds for Brain Tumour Research.

Organised by charity stalwart, Simon Tier, more than 50 club and amateur cyclists took on the Isle of Wight Randonnée to help fund vital research into brain tumours.

Sunday (July 3) saw two groups take to the saddle to cycle either 68 miles around the island or 136 miles if they chose to go around twice.

Simon said:

“We had amazing support from our volunteers, great backing by so many businesses to enable us to keep our riders fully fuelled throughout.

"Most importantly, thousands of pounds raised.”

Simon set up the event in the same year he lost his best friend and best man, Alan, to a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) at the age of 47.

He has since gone on to raise more than £40,000 for the charity and received support from the local community including cycling club, Fareham Wheelers.

In recognition of his fundraising, Wednesday (July 6) will see Simon carrying the Queen’s Baton Relay ahead of this month's Commonwealth Games.

This year’s event was sponsored by the Newport and Ryde branches of Specsavers.
