Cowes RNLI Lifeboat Assists Injured Yachtsman

A 69-year-old man who ended up in the water and suffering injuries, while attempting to board a yacht in the River Medina, sparked an emergency call to Cowes RNLI lifeboat last night (Thursday.)

The incident occurred at a mid-river pontoon off the Folly. Although the man was initially rescued by another yacht, he had a leg injury requiring special attention.

The lifeboat launched at 4.40 pm and delivered two lifeboat crew, Dr Will King and Keith Mitchell, to the yacht. It then collected two paramedics with a basket stretcher, waiting at East Cowes Marina, before returning to the yacht.

After the man was attended to on the yacht, the lifeboat conveyed him to the marina where an ambulance was waiting to take him to hospital.

The lifeboat returned to station at 6.20pm.
