Cowes Lifeboat Called to Assist Racing Keel Boat

In the week that Cowes and East Cowes are recognising the 50th anniversary of the death of famous local yacht designer, Uffa Fox, Cowes RNLI lifeboat was involved in a rescue of one of Uffa’s most famous racing keel boats– the Flying Fifteen.

The yacht had taken on too much water in lively sea conditions near West Ryde Middle Buoy last night (Thursday) - while the two people aboard were possibly getting some practice in prior to celebratory races later in the week.

First on the scene was a Cowes Harbour launch, which took the crew aboard and began towing their partially submerged racing dinghy to Cowes.

Eventually, the tow was taken over by the lifeboat, which duly delivered the craft to Shepards Wharf Marina and its lifting crane.

The lifeboat, which had launched just after 6pm, returned to station at 7.53pm.
