Concerns Raised For Man On Shanklin Beach

Emergency services have been responding to an incident on Shanklin Esplanade this evening (Thursday).

Police, coastguards and Sandown Lifeboat were all called after concerns for the welfare of a man on the beach were raised at around 6pm.

Teams descended to the area at the far end of the seafront, near Horse Ledge, with fears the individual had been cut off by the tide.

A tent had been set up on the beach by the man.

After speaking with to him, it was deemed that there was no further risk, and the man was moved on.

HM Coastguard told Isle of Wight Radio:

“Ventnor Coastguard Rescue team and Sandown Lifeboat were responding to a 999 call from a member of the public, reporting people at risk of being cut off by the tide.

“All people have been accounted for and moved to a place of safety.”
