Christ The King College ‘Privileged’ By Archbishop Of Canterbury's Visit

Staff and students at Christ the King College declared themselves “honoured and privileged” by the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury last week.

The Most Revd Justin Welby visited the college on Friday October 13 alongside the Bishop of Portsmouth, Jonathan Frost.

A very busy schedule saw him meet with staff and governors, before blessing the college’s new chapel and delivering talks to students.

A short ceremony was held in the new chapel, a dedicated space for prayer and reflection, in which the college’s new chaplains, Stuart Brenchley and Claire Rennie.

He alongside selected students from across all year groups, worshipped with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Jonathan Frost and other members of the clergy.

Archbishop Justin Welby then had a busy schedule of three talks in a row with students from Year 7 to Year 13.

Students listened intently as the Archbishop regaled them with entertaining and enlightening stories about his life and work.

Headteacher, Andrew Montrose, said:

"Today was a landmark day in our college’s history.

"The whole community came together to welcome our special visitors.

"Students asked some perceptive questions of Archbishop Justin. Initial feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive - they appreciated the opportunity to interact with the Archbishop."

Chaplain, Stuart Brenchley, said it was a defining moment for the college:

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for both students and staff to meet with the leader from the Church of England.

"To see how relational, he is and to have him inspire us to encourage each other truly was great.” The Archbishop and Bishop were presented with caricatures drawn by Adam Brown CTK Art Teacher.
