Children’s Ward Parents Room Gets A Makeover At St Mary's

The parents’ room located in the Children’s Ward at St Mary’s Hospital has been transformed thanks to a kind donation and capital funding.

The new room, recently relocated to inside the ward, now includes sofa beds, a kitchenette area, comfortable soft furnishings and a fabulous wall mural that shows off the island’s beautiful coastline.

This new space now means that parents are able to support their children who have been admitted to hospital and stay overnight if they want to.

Layla’s Trust, a charity set up by Emma and Colman Cotter whose little girl Layla sadly died at just 10 weeks old, kindly donated money to purchase bedding for the sofa beds, cushions, crockery, cutlery, throws, lamps etc to make the room feel as homely as possible.

Emma from Layla’s Trust said:

“The new room will mean parents can be with their children when they need them most and have the space, facilities and privacy they need in a comfortable environment.

“We feel it is essential that families have the choice to stay together whenever possible and this spaces facilitates that.

"We were similarly able to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit previously and it proved to be a real success.”
