Channel 5's 'Jewel Of The South' To Celebrate The Isle Of Wight

The Isle of Wight is set to feature in a new four-part Channel 5 series.

Jewel of the South is a series celebrating the natural beauty and rich historical heritage of the Island.

Filmed last summer, the three-part series explores how Islanders handle the challenges of a busy tourist season.

Sandown Airport - run by Dan Subhani and his wife, Tracey - will also feature. The popular airport also hosts large summer events during the tourist season, as well serving food and drinks.

Dan told Isle of Wight Radio:

"Everyone at Sandown Airport is thrilled to be part of a new Channel 5 TV series.

"Sandown Airport will feature in two of the three episodes, along with a number of other fantastic Island tourist businesses. This is sure to be a welcome boost for the Island tourism economy."

In Bembridge, fishmongers Mike and Ruth Curtis are featured, together with daughters Izzy and Jess, while in Sandown, Christine Jackson is rallying an army of volunteers to help clean up the promenade for Sandown Regatta.

In East Cowes, twins Philip and Nigel Brown look after the gardens at Osborne House – the royal residence built for Queen Victoria. Local detectorist, Justin Cavnor, and holidaymakers, the Edwards family, also explore Whitecliff Bay.

The first Jewel of the South episode will air on Thursday March 2, at 8pm, on Channel 5.
