Car On Fire Causes Delays On Newport's Dual Carriageway

A car on fire has caused delays on Newport's dual carriageway this afternoon (Friday.)

It appears that the engine of the vehicle, a Ford Focus, caught fire at around 3.15pm due to overheating in the scorching temperatures.

Although the fire has successfully been extinguished, crews remain on the scene at this time.

Nobody has been reported injured as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:

"We were called at 3.20pm by our colleagues at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to a report of a car on fire on the southbound carriageway of Medina Way.

"We are at the scene assisting with traffic control."
