Brave Island Offering Free Opportunities For Young People Throughout 2023

Islanders aged 14 to 25 are being invited to take advantage of a host of free opportunities within the creative industry.

Brave Island has announced ambitious plans to offer free sessions every week in 2023.

The group is a new type of online platform created by Ventnor Exchange to provide mentoring, funding, experiences and training for young people interested in the creative industries.

With weekly posts, the site lists new opportunities to get involved, learn new skills, get free tickets to events or even paid jobs and commissions.

Current openings include taking over an empty shop in a local High Street with an artist, a 48-hour challenge supported by the BFI Film Academy and DJ lessons.

Every week is different, and every experience is free, with travel costs also included.

Creative Director Jack Whitewood said:

“Almost 300 young people signed up to Brave Island during the pilot phase, demonstrating there is real interest and demand.

"Growing up on the Isle of Wight, it can often feel like opportunities are hard to come by, and like any rural area it can be isolating.

"Through Brave Island we want to build a creative local network of young people, bringing them together and removing barriers.”

You can sign up at braveisland.uk to receive weekly notifications of the opportunities on offer.
