Binstead Man Accused Of Attempted Murder And Killing Dog Appears In Court

A Binstead man accused of attempting to murder his wife, and killing his dog, has had his case sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Michael Lee Orton, of Newnham Road, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this morning (Monday).

The 59-year-old stood accused of attempted murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

It's alleged he slit the throat of his dog, named Kora.

Police were called to an address in Newnham Road at 11.10am on June 20.

A woman had suffered injuries, which were not deemed to be life-threatening. She was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

A man detained at the scene was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

Mr Orton has been remanded in custody to appear at Crown Court on November 23.
