Bag Of The Net! Newport And Carisbrooke Litter Pick Proves Huge Hit

Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council’s litter project got off to a flying start for 2023.

A total of 18 volunteers and coordinators collected 32 bags of rubbish at Downside Recreation Ground.

Nappies, broken glass, tins and wrappers were amongst the items found by the 18 people in attendance.

Members of the public, Vectis Wombles, Newport & Carisbrooke councillors and staff, Pan Together and local PCSO’s joined in with the mammoth pick.

Leader of Vectis Wombles ‘Womble Wendy’ Marshall said:

“It’s been a pleasure for Vectis Wombles to help Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council.

"Wombles from across the island came together and it was great getting to know people in the community including young people and the PCSO’s.

"There were all walks of life, all ages and the weather was spot on!”

Their attendance at the litter pick comes straight off the back of Vectis Wombles winning silver in the New Community Project of the Year category of the Vectis Radio Awards on March 30.
