A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with freezing conditions expected to develop overnight into Wednesday morning.
Temperatures are forecast to fall to around or below freezing in many rural parts of the Island, increasing the risk of ice forming on roads and pavements.
This is largely due to leftover surface water from today’s rainfall, which could freeze as temperatures drop.
Motorists are being warned to take extra care, particularly on country roads, where near-invisible “black ice” may form as water running off fields freezes in patches.
Pedestrians are also advised to be cautious, as footpaths and walkways could become slippery.
Elsewhere across the Island, lighter impacts are expected, with a slight frost possible on cars and grassy surfaces by Wednesday morning.
The warning is valid from 3am until 11am on Wednesday 14 January.
Islanders are urged to allow extra time for morning journeys, drive cautiously, and be mindful of icy conditions underfoot.
