A main road in Ventnor was closed for several hours this lunchtime following a collision involving an elderly pedestrian and a car.
Emergency services were called to St Boniface Road shortly after 12.15pm on Tuesday after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a hatchback.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended the scene.
The pedestrian was treated by ambulance crews, including a critical care paramedic, before being taken to hospital.
Police cordoned off the area while initial enquiries were carried out.
The collision involved a Toyota travelling out of Ventnor towards Shanklin.
St Boniface Road was closed between Mitchell Avenue and Leeson Road, causing disruption to traffic.
Southern Vectis route 3 buses were diverted via Trinity Church in both directions.
The road has since reopened. Police have confirmed the pedestrian sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident.
