A Ventnor pharmacy has been removed from the NHS pharmaceutical list after being closed for several months, despite an appeal against the decision.

Jhoots Pharmacy, based at 1 Albert Street, was struck off by NHS Resolution following an unsuccessful appeal against the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board’s (ICB) decision to remove it from the list.

The government body said the branch had been closed for a “significantly long period” and that Jhoots had failed to provide a “good reason” why its removal was not “proportionate and justified.”

According to the ICB’s report, the pharmacy had been shut since March 2025, apart from one brief reopening on 12 June when a pharmacist was on-site for only a few hours.

The committee noted that the closure had created uncertainty for patients and disrupted access to medication, placing additional pressure on local GP practices to reissue

prescriptions.

Jhoots argued that the ICB had taken “irrelevant matters” into account and insisted it had since resolved staffing issues, stating that the pharmacy reopened on 4 August.

The company said it was “committed to providing pharmaceutical services for the people of Ventnor” and had hired a pharmacist to restore operations.

Despite this, NHS Resolution upheld the removal, meaning Jhoots Pharmacy will no longer appear on the NHS list for the area.

James Roach, Director of Primary Care and Local Care at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said:

“We will always look to work with our pharmacies and remain in weekly contact with Jhoots.
"However, we remain prepared to take action where necessary to ensure the best access for patients.
"We have been working with GP practices to make sure patients can continue to access their medications as needed and do not expect any interruptions as a result.”
