Isle of Wight residents can expect a mixed day of weather, with sunny spells this morning giving way to showers later this afternoon.

According to IW Met Service, Tuesday will start with broken cloud and periods of sunshine, with only a small chance of a shower through the morning and early afternoon.

However, showers moving south from the mainland are expected to gradually reach the Island from mid-afternoon.

Some of these could be heavy, bringing hail and the possibility of an isolated rumble of thunder.

Temperatures are forecast to reach between 16°C and 18°C.

Winds will strengthen through the day, initially from the west-southwest at around 15 to 25mph before increasing to 19 to 35mph and turning more westerly during the afternoon.

Any showers are expected to clear this evening, leaving lengthy clear spells overnight.

Temperatures will fall to around 13°C to 14°C, with westerly winds gradually easing towards dawn.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the weather is set to become wetter and windier.

After a brighter start, cloud is expected to thicken quickly during the morning, with spells of rain arriving by mid to late morning and continuing into the afternoon.

The rain should clear eastwards by mid-afternoon, although only limited brighter spells are expected afterwards, alongside the risk of a few lingering showers.

Wednesday's temperatures are forecast to reach 15°C to 16°C.

Strong south-westerly winds are expected to develop during the day, potentially gusting between 28 and 50mph for a time during the afternoon before gradually easing later in the day.

Rainfall totals of between 2mm and 5mm are currently expected on Wednesday.
