The Isle of Wight’s hospital could get a new eight-bed ward to support surgery recovery.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has put forward plans to demolish existing administration offices and consulting rooms belonging to St Mary’s Hospital’s Mottistone Ward, replacing them with an eight single bedroom extension.

The new facility would be located to the north of the hospital and linked to an existing corridor connecting the Mottistone Ward with the rest of the North Hospital, according to a Design and Access Statement from consultants ERMC.

It says:

“The extension is replacing an existing structure on the site and making good use of an existing built area rather than using landscaped or green areas within the existing complex.
“There is no loss of parking spaces within the hospital grounds with the provision of this extension.”

The council’s public consultation on proposal 25/01033/FUL ends on September 8 and a decision is due on October 1.
