Shoplifters across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been jailed for a total of 34 years and six months, thanks to a new crime-reporting app backed by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones.
The UK Partners Against Crime (UKPAC) app — now being rolled out on the Isle of Wight — lets shop staff instantly log thefts, upload CCTV and photos, and alert other stores, helping police quickly identify repeat offenders.
Since its launch this summer, four criminals have each been jailed for a year or more, including one caught for 93 separate shoplifting offences.
The app has already transformed policing in towns like Lymington, where shoplifting reports have dropped dramatically as dozens of retailers sign up.
Donna Jones said:
“Our message to shoplifters across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is clear: with help from retailers, police are coming after you.”
The PCC is funding the app so businesses across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight can use it free for their first year.
