A technical fault aboard Red Osprey has led to a series of ferry cancellations on the cross-Solent route, disrupting travel between the Isle of Wight and the mainland today (Tuesday).

Operator Red Funnel first confirmed issues earlier this morning, with the 9.30am departure from East Cowes and the 11am return sailing from Southampton both cancelled due to a problem with the vessel’s forward main engine.

As the situation developed, further disruption followed.

The 12.30pm sailing from East Cowes and the 2pm service from Southampton have now also been pulled, leaving passengers facing delays and uncertainty.

The disruption comes at a particularly busy time, with many people travelling back after the long Bank Holiday weekend—typically one of the peak periods for cross-Solent traffic.

At present, it remains unclear how long the technical issue will persist or whether additional sailings will be affected throughout the day.

Passengers planning to travel are being advised to check for the latest updates before setting off.
