Popular Lake Fish And Chip Shop Could Be Lost Forever

A well-known Isle of Wight fish and chip shop could be set to close for good if a change of use application is approved.

Tina Brittain has applied to the Isle of Wight Council to convert 16 Sandown Road in Lake – the former Lake Fish Bar, which closed in August 2023 – into a residential property.

The premises has remained empty since the shop’s closure, and despite efforts to sell the business, no buyer has come forward.

The property, which includes the takeaway and an attached three-bedroom house, was purchased by Tina and her late husband in 2000.

The shop itself had been serving customers since 1978.

If the council approves the plans, the building would become a four-bedroom home.

The council’s consultation on the application closes on 24 October, with a decision expected by 5 November.
