Police are warning residents to stay vigilant against rogue traders as part of a campaign targeting doorstep crime across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says officers and partner agencies have been carrying out activity under Operation Replicate, aimed at tackling fraudsters offering unsolicited work on homes.

The initiative forms part of the wider ‘Stop! Think Fraud’ message, urging people not to agree to on-the-spot offers from cold callers.

Residents are instead being encouraged to use approved trader schemes, including Buy With Confidence and the Isle of Wight’s Trader Approval Scheme, to find vetted professionals.

Police say a number of local events will take place over the coming weeks to raise awareness and help prevent people falling victim to scams.

Anyone who believes they have been targeted is urged to report incidents to Action Fraud, while emergencies or crimes in progress should be reported by calling 999.

Officers are also encouraging the public to share the advice with friends and family, particularly those who may be more vulnerable to doorstep fraud.
