Police are investigating two separate break-ins at pharmacies in Ryde over the weekend, during which a quantity of prescription medication was stolen.

Officers were first called shortly before 12.30am on Saturday (1 November) following reports of a burglary at Blakely’s Pharmacy on Rink Road.

Entry had been forced to the store and medication was taken.

A few hours later, police were called to a second incident at Gibbs & Gurnell Pharmacy on Union Street, where a rock had been used to smash a window at the front of the shop.

In that case, no medication is believed to have been stolen.

A 31-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the Union Street break-in.

Officers are now investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

Police enquiries remain ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact them on 101, quoting reference 44250493865.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
