Police are appealing for help to identify a man following a robbery at a petrol station in Newport.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary say the incident happened at around 7.20pm on Saturday 28 March at the Morrisons petrol station on South Street.

It’s reported a man approached a member of staff, kicked him to the ground and punched him in the face before demanding access to the till.

He then left around five minutes later with a bottle of whiskey, cigarettes and flowers without paying.

Thankfully, the victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged between 50 and 60, with a stocky build, grey beard and short grey hair.

He was wearing grey jeans, a black waterproof jacket and a white T-shirt with stains on the front.

Police believe the man seen in CCTV images could help with their investigation and are urging him, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward.

Anyone with information, or who witnessed the incident, is asked to contact police on 101 or online, quoting incident number 44260147115.
