Bus Services Returning To Havenstreet For First Time In 11 Years

Buses are set to return to Havenstreet for the first time in 11 years, while extra evening journeys are also being introduced on two Southern Vectis routes.

The Number 33 service will reconnect Havenstreet with Ryde and Newport, as well as the wider Island public transport network.

The new service has been approved by the Isle of Wight Council and is being developed in partnership with Southern Vectis and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

The council says the service will help tackle social isolation in the rural community, which has been without a regular bus service since 2015.

Meanwhile in Ventnor, a loading ban has been approved outside The Mill Bay on The Esplanade to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

The council had received reports of vehicles, including those displaying Blue Badges, regularly parking on double yellow lines at a passing point outside the restaurant.

It said this had been causing delays, reducing visibility and creating a danger to pedestrians.

Extra evening journeys will also be retained on the Number 6 and Number 12 Southern Vectis services, following the approval of funding worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The council says the additional services will help people access the Island's evening economy and encourage greater use of public transport.

The measures form part of a wider programme of bus service improvements funded through money from the Department for Transport.
