A patient has been taken to St Mary's Hospital after the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance responded to a life-threatening medical emergency in Ryde.

A patient has been taken to St Mary's Hospital following a major emergency response to a life-threatening medical incident at a residential address in Ryde this morning (Friday).

The patient was transported to hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance's specialist doctor and critical care paramedic after treatment at the scene.

The air ambulance helicopter later repositioned to the hospital's helipad.

Emergency services were called to Sutton Close in Oakfield at around 09:00, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service dispatching an ambulance crew, a rapid response paramedic and an operational officer.

Firefighters from Ryde Fire Station were also mobilised to provide an emergency medical response due to the seriousness of the incident.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance helicopter lifted off from its base at Southampton Airport shortly after 09:15, landing in fields between Smallbrook Lane and Nicholson Road around 10 minutes later.

The air ambulance's doctor and critical care paramedic joined colleagues already at the scene, where they worked to stabilise the patient before the journey to St Mary's Hospital.

The nature of the medical emergency has not been disclosed.
