Two Isle of Wight GP practices are set to join forces by the end of next year, in a move aimed at securing the future of local healthcare services.

Newport Health Centre and Cowes Medical Centre plan to merge to create a single, larger practice serving around 40,000 patients across the two areas.

The decision follows the planned step-down of two long-serving Cowes partners, Dr Beate Parsons and Dr Jagannadha Boorle, who will continue working as GPs but will no longer serve as practice partners.

Dr Parsons said:

“It has been a pleasure to serve the people of Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood.
"While Dr Boorle and I are stepping down from the partnership, we’ll both remain as GPs at the practice.
"This is a really exciting time, and we look forward to seeing the combined practice go from strength to strength.”

Dr Myrto Kaklamanou, a partner at Newport Health Centre, said the merger would help maintain high-quality patient care.

“This merger is about protecting our future and ensuring we can continue to deliver the best possible services.
"We understand change can be unsettling, but we’re committed to making the transition as smooth as possible.”

Patients will stay registered with their current surgery and can continue using their usual site.

However, they may also be offered appointments at the other location, allowing greater access to specialist services and appointment availability.

Both practices say they’ll be holding drop-in sessions in Newport and Cowes over the coming months, giving patients a chance to ask questions and share feedback.

Details will be shared on each practice’s social media pages and on-site noticeboards.
