Plans for a new doggy day care in an Isle of Wight town have been given the go ahead.

County Hall has accepted Suzanne Wright’s proposal for a change of use of Guido Designs Unit 3, a workshop on Ventnor Industrial Estate on Ventnor’s Old Station Road.

The ‘Wright Zone Doggy Day Care’ unit would have main play and enrichment, calm and comfy and isolation areas along with storage space, an office and a reception.

Its opening times would be between 7.30am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, 8am and 5pm on Saturdays and from 10am and 4pm on Sundays or bank holidays.

The business would employ one full time employee, according to Ms Wright’s application form.

Ventnor Town Council supported the proposal subject to a condition ensuring vehicle movement is staggered.

A resident of the town, Mrs E. Bush, meanwhile described the bid as a “great idea”, saying

“we need more things like this on the south side of the Island”.

The Isle of Wight Council’s decision report for application 25/01551/FUL said the proposed use would bring about employment benefit to the community and support a start-up business.

Planners wrote:

“Island Roads have confirmed that the application may result in an intensification in traffic use and have based this on the facility providing for ten dogs per day which could generate up to 20 vehicle movements a day.
“However, this could be effectively mitigated by a condition that would require the facility to stagger pick-up and drop-off times as this would minimise the number of vehicles requiring access to the site at any one time and would be sufficient to ensure that no adverse impact occurs on the publicly maintainable highway.”

Seven conditions were attached to the approval for reasons of legal and planning policy compliance, protecting the amenities of the area and nearby  properties, minimising vehicle displacement onto the surrounding highway network and the site’s visual appearance.
