Funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for Newport Minster is set to come to an end tomorrow (31 March), marking the close of a successful chapter for the historic Island church.

Since reopening its doors in May 2024, Newport Minster has welcomed more than 50,000 visitors and established itself as a thriving hub for the community.

Over the past year, the venue has hosted around 50 musical performances, indoor markets, community events and even award-winning theatre productions.

The popular Minster Café has also become a regular feature for visitors.

A team of more than 100 volunteers has been recruited over the past three years, playing a key role in keeping the building open and supporting its growing programme of events.

Hannah Griffiths, Community Engagement Coordinator, said it had been “a joy” to be part of the Minster’s transformation.

“We feel like Newport Minster is firmly on the map and we will continue to welcome visitors to this beautiful space. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey,” she said.

Revd Chris Bradish added that a celebration is planned to recognise the work that has taken place over the past three years.

“We felt it was right to celebrate all the hard work that has gone into this project. We’re now looking ahead to the next phase and hope the community will continue to be part of that journey,” he said.

Newport Minster remains open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday and continues to hold two Sunday services, with Holy Communion at 11:00 and an evening Worship and Prayer service at 18:30. All are welcome.
