Two Isle of Wight men are preparing to tackle a gruelling 100-mile endurance challenge in aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

Former rugby teammates Sam Tyson and Kemp Price will swim, cycle and run across the Island on 11th July in a bid to raise £5,000 for the hospice charity.

The challenge begins with a two-mile sea swim from Sandown to Shanklin, followed by a 70-mile cycle around the Island's coastline.

They will then complete a 28-mile run, following the Walk the Wight route with an additional loop through Newport before finishing at Freshwater Bay.

The pair hope to complete the challenge in between 12 and 14 hours.

Sam said they wanted to take on a challenge big enough to encourage people to support Mountbatten at a time when charities are under increasing financial pressure.

Kemp, whose father recently received care from Mountbatten at home, said seeing the support his family received reinforced just how important the charity's work is.

Money raised will help Mountbatten continue providing end-of-life care and bereavement support across the Isle of Wight, with around 85 per cent of its care delivered in patients' homes.

Beach Boys Water Sports will provide safety cover during the swim, while friends and family will support the pair throughout the day.

Members of the public are also welcome to join sections of the cycle or run, although organisers stress it is not a formal event and anyone taking part does so at their own risk.
