A series of road closures and traffic restrictions are set to come into force across the Isle of Wight in the coming weeks as part of ongoing utility, maintenance and safety works.
Key routes in and around Newport are among those affected, including the Fairlee Link Road, which will be closed overnight between May 5 and May 8 for lining works.
Staplers Road in Newport is also scheduled for temporary closure as part of a wider programme of carriageway maintenance between May 1 and June 12. Exact dates for this closure will be confirmed closer to the time.
In Ryde, West Hill Road will be closed overnight from 6pm on Tuesday, May 12 until 6am the following morning, with a no-waiting restriction in place during the same period.
Elsewhere, a number of full road closures are planned, including:
Camp Road and Copse Lane in Freshwater (May 11–15)
Pallance Road, Northwood (May 11–22, phased works)
St Boniface Road, Ventnor (May 11–13)
Whiteley Bank, Ventnor (overnight closures from May 14–18)
Leeson Road, Ventnor (May 7–11)
Drivers in the Bay area are also being warned of overnight closures on Sandown Road in Lake and Shanklin on May 11, as well as a one-way system on Avenue Road, Sandown between May 11 and May 19.
A number of shorter-term closures are also planned across the Island in early May, including:
Ashey Road, Ryde (May 6–8)
Snowberry Road and Sandy Lane, Newport
Combley Road, Havenstreet
High Street, Whitwell
Main Road, Newbridge
Meanwhile, ongoing works between May and mid-June could see temporary closures introduced at short notice on several roads and footpaths, including Castle Street in Carisbrooke, Brighstone Road in Brook, and routes in Ventnor and East Cowes.
Residents are being advised that exact timings and access arrangements will be communicated locally via signage and letters where required.
All closures are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Island Roads says the measures are necessary to allow essential works to be carried out safely, with diversion routes signposted where applicable.
Separate restrictions will also be in place on Sunday May 10 for the annual Walk the Wight event, affecting several roads across the Island between 5am and 6pm.
