After 18 months of bringing stand-up to the Isle of Wight, Ballyrags popular Third Thursday Comedy Night is set to take its final bow at FuBar in Ryde this evening (18th September).

Since launching, the monthly night has established itself as a highlight in the Island’s cultural calendar, drawing both comedy fans and high-profile acts from across the UK.

Over the past year and a half, the FuBar stage has welcomed some of the country’s most recognisable names, including Tony Law, Bobby Mair, Angelos Epithemiou, Robert White, Geoff Norcott, Dane Baptiste, Craig Campbell, Carey Marx, Imran Yusuf, Alistair Barrie, Simon Emanuel, Alistair Williams, Kev Mud, Jarrad Christmas – and even a special international appearance from American comic Jeff Dye.

The final show at FuBar will be headlined by acclaimed musical satirist Mitch Benn, known to many as a long-standing star of BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show. His sharp wit and signature comedy songs will provide a fitting finale for a night that has consistently delivered laughter to sold-out crowds.

Although this Thursday marks the end of the event’s run at FuBar, Ballyrags Comedy Club have confirmed that the ‘Third Thursday’ tradition will live on at a new home at the Esplanade Hotel in Ryde, where the monthly gigs will continue from October.

Co-founders Toby Brown and Luc Valvona reflected on the move. Toby admitted,:

“It’s going to be emotional leaving FuBar, which is where it all began for Ballyrags.”

Luc added:

“FuBar has played a big role in the Island’s comedy scene. We even ran the comedy school there for a time, and it’s been fantastic to showcase so many local up-and-coming acts alongside our headliners.”
