Legendary Singer-Songwriter Frankie Miller Celebrated At Dimbola

An evening celebrating the life and music of Scottish singer-songwriter Frankie Miller was held at Dimbola Museum and Galleries on Saturday.

The event marked Miller's connection with the Isle of Wight, including his appearance with the band Howl at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.

Guests heard an 'In Conversation' discussion between Miller's friend and biographer Davy Arthur and artist and sculptor Guy Portelli, alongside live performances of Miller's music by guitarist Dick Taylor and vocalist Jo Larcombe.

The evening also included excerpts from a documentary about Miller and concluded with a book signing by Davy Arthur.

Miller's career was cut short after he suffered a brain haemorrhage in 1994, but his music and influence have continued to be celebrated.

Dr Brian Hinton, Executive Chair of Dimbola Museum and Galleries, said:

“Frankie Miller’s time in the spotlight was brief but explosive. He was one of the greatest soul singers of his generation and was cruelly forced to retire from active performance.

"But his legacy shines bright, and it was a privilege for Dimbola to host an evening celebrating his extraordinary life and music.”
