Isle of Wight bus passengers are set to benefit from a major cash injection, after the Government confirmed the Island will receive millions of pounds every year to improve services and transport infrastructure up to 2028/29.

The funding — part of a £369 million package for the South East — can be used flexibly by the Isle of Wight Council to deliver key upgrades outlined in its Bus Service Improvement Plan. That includes better cross-Island routes, improved links with other transport services and enhanced town centre connections.

It follows the multi-million-pound transformation of Ryde Transport Interchange and comes ahead of 31 new electric buses, due to arrive in spring 2026.

The investment will also complement the Island Green Link project, set to improve travel between Ryde and Yarmouth with upgraded bus, cycling and walking routes.

Cllr Julie Jones-Evans said the funding will support “sustainable, efficient bus travel for all”, while Transport Strategy Manager Stewart Chandler welcomed the multi-year commitment as a major boost for ongoing improvement work.
