The Isle of Wight College is set to benefit from nearly £750,000 of government funding aimed at improving buildings and facilities.

A total of £749,298 has been allocated to the college as part of a wider £307 million investment to repair and maintain further education sites across England.

The funding will be used alongside work on the college’s new building to upgrade existing facilities, including addressing maintenance issues such as ageing infrastructure and worn-out spaces.

The Isle of Wight College is one of 175 institutions set to receive a share of the funding, with leaders given flexibility to decide how best to spend the money locally.

Isle of Wight West MP Richard Quigley said he was pleased to help secure the investment, describing the college as central to further education on the Island.

He added that the funding would help create more opportunities for young people, supporting pathways into apprenticeships and higher education.

Skills Minister Jacqui Smith said the investment would help modernise college facilities and ensure students and staff have suitable environments for learning.

The funding forms part of a wider £1.7 billion programme to upgrade college buildings by 2030.

It is expected to be distributed to the Isle of Wight College in due course.
