An Isle of Wight theatre group is calling on young people across the Island to step forward and join the cast of its upcoming production of Les Misérables: School Edition.
The production, which will be staged at Medina Theatre, is being run by Theatretrain Isle of Wight and is open to all young performers aged 12 to 18, regardless of school.
However, organisers say they are currently in urgent need of more boys to take part, particularly to fill key roles within the show’s revolutionary ensemble.
While there is already a strong group of girls signed up, the team says additional male performers are needed to complete the cast.
The production is being described as a major opportunity for young Island talent, offering the chance to take part in one of the world’s most well-known musicals.
Organisers have also stressed that the project is not a profit-making venture.
Although students contribute a small fee, it does not cover the full costs of theatre hire, sets and costumes, with the shortfall personally funded to ensure the show can go ahead.
They say the aim is to provide a high-quality theatre experience for local young people and open up opportunities for anyone across the Island with an interest in performing arts.
A previous Theatretrain production of Chicago has been highlighted as an example of the scale and ambition of the group’s work, with organisers saying it reflects the same open-access model being used for Les Misérables.
