More than 600 children from 22 primary schools across the Isle of Wight attended the RIWAS Education Day at the County Showground earlier this month.

The event, organised by the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society, gave pupils the chance to learn more about farming, food production and rural life ahead of this summer’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show.

Twenty-four areas of the show were represented during the day, including livestock, equine, arts and sports exhibits. Children also took part in interactive demonstrations and enjoyed tractor and trailer rides to the woodland area.

County Show chairman Graham Biss said:

“We were delighted to give the children a fun but informative day. The real stars, as always, were the animals - it was wonderful to see the excitement and interest on the children’s faces.”

Karen Horton from St Saviour's Primary School described the event as a “fantastic” opportunity for pupils to learn about agriculture and the local community.

She added:

“One of the highlights of the day was the woodland walk, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.”

Following this year’s success, organisers say plans are already underway to expand the event further in 2027.

The next Education Day is scheduled to take place on 18 May 2027, ahead of the Royal Isle of Wight County Show in July.
