Firefighters were called to tackle a house fire on a residential street in central Cowes yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency crews attended Moorgreen Road shortly before 17:30, after reports of smoke billowing from a family home.
Smoke was seen coming from the upper floors of the property, both at the front and rear.
Multiple fire appliances were sent to the scene as sirens echoed through the town, with crews working to contain and extinguish the blaze.
An update later in the evening confirmed that the occupants had safely escaped the property, which suffered significant fire and smoke damage.
Moorgreen Road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Firefighters have since confirmed the blaze is believed to have started in a bedroom and is thought to have been accidental.
In total, three fire appliances from Cowes and Newport, along with an Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport, were involved in the response.
The fire was subsequently extinguished, although crews remained on scene into the evening to damp down hotspots.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service checked over one person at the scene.
