An historic building in the heart of Newport that was most recently used as part of an NHS surgery is set to be converted back into a family home.
Isle of Wight Council planners have approved plans submitted by Zen Transformations to change the use of 29 Pyle Street, a Grade II-listed building dating back to the early 19th century.
The property has been used as office space for a number of years, but the applicant's agent said securing a suitable commercial tenant is no longer considered viable in the current economic climate.
The approved plans will see the building converted into a four-bedroom home, returning it to its original residential use.
Permission also includes infilling internal doorways through a party wall connecting the property to neighbouring Chantry House, another listed building dating from the late 17th or early 18th century.
Planning officers concluded the change of use would not harm the vitality of Newport town centre or negatively affect neighbouring properties.
Five planning conditions have been attached to the approval, covering compliance with planning policy, improvements to the building's appearance and the preservation of its historic character.
