A fundraising appeal has been launched after the sudden death of Isle of Wight man Cliff Goodwin, who collapsed and died on his boat, leaving behind his wife and five children.

Cliff, aged 53, was found by a friend on Bank Holiday Monday after what is believed to have been a cardiac arrest.

The friend had briefly stepped away for around ten minutes before returning to find him unresponsive.

His son, Ben Goodwin, has set up the appeal to help support the family at what he describes as an “absolutely devastating” time.

Cliff leaves behind his wife Katrina, his children, and a nine-year-old daughter who requires significant daily support due to non-verbal autism.

Ben described his father as a “true people pleaser” who was always helping others, whether fixing cars or electronics, despite living with chronic pain from long-term health issues.

The family say Cliff had recently secured a move-in date for a long-awaited permanent home, after spending the past 18 months in emergency housing following the sale of their previous family home of over 20 years.

Tragically, he died before he was able to move in.

Ben said the aim of the fundraiser is to help give his father the “send-off he deserves” and ease the financial pressure on the family.

Any funds raised beyond funeral costs will go towards helping furnish and set up the new home for Katrina and the children.

He added that Cliff was known for travelling around in his Elgrand van, serving food at events and supporting the community, and was still planning future meet-ups before his death.

So far, the appeal has raised more than £2,800.
