Firefighters Tackle Hillside Blaze Threatening Garages In Ventnor

Firefighters were called into action to tackle an undergrowth fire on a hillside in Ventnor on Tuesday evening.

Crews from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to Steephill Down Road, just off Newport Road, after flames took hold in bushes on the slope.

The fire posed a risk to a block of garages located on the southern side of the dead-end road above Gills Cliff Road.

Firefighters used hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading further.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
