Newport Minster has officially begun the Advent season with the installation of a towering 26-foot Christmas tree — but needed a little help to finish decorating it.
The tree, funded by a raffle at the recent G4 concert and supplied by Shide Trees, was decorated by clergy and volunteers.
However, the team soon discovered they didn’t have a ladder tall enough to reach the top and place the star.
Rev. Stephen Sutcliffe visited neighbouring Newport Fire Station to ask if they could lend a hand.
The following evening, Red Watch arrived with specialist equipment and helped safely position the star at the tree’s peak.
Given the height of the tree, professional gear and trained personnel were required to complete the task safely.
The fire crew volunteered their time and expertise to ensure the star shone from the very top.
Rev. Steve, Team Vicar, thanked the firefighters for their support:
“Their generosity and willingness to help embody the true spirit of Christmas. The star now shines brightly for all to see, reminding us of hope, light, and joy.”
The public is invited to visit the Minster and see the tree during services and events leading up to Christmas.
